Answer a few quick questions, for your own garden or for a gift, and I'll point you to the right one.

Who's it for?

Calendar or app?

Calendar and journal: planting windows for your zone's average frost dates. It's a general guide, so you can shift it a week or two to fit your own spot.

App: the most accurate dates. It fits every planting date to your exact frost dates (look them up by ZIP), with reminders, a garden log and harvest countdowns.

Seed-starting calculator

When do I start my seeds?

Pick your zone or type your frost dates, and I'll count back to the exact windows for starting seeds indoors and moving them outside. Same math as my 2027 planting calendars.

1 Pick your zone

2 Check your frost dates

Your zone fills in the average dates from my calendars. If your local frost dates are different, type them in and every window slides to match.

Every date is a window, not a deadline. Happy growing!

Good questions

Before you order

Which zone am I in?

Type your ZIP code into the zone finder at the top of this page. It uses the 2023 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map, and the site remembers your zone while you shop.

When will my order ship?

The 2027 printed calendars and garden journals are on pre-order and ship by November 15. Journals are printed to order just for you. Digital downloads are pre-orders too: download links go out on November 15. The Planting Calendar App is the exception: it opens right after checkout, so you can start planning now.

What's the difference between the printed calendar and the digital download?

The printed calendar is a spiral-bound wall calendar with 11 x 8.5 inch pages that open to 11 x 17, in a glossy or matte finish (matte is easier to write on). The digital download is the same calendar as a PDF (emailed on November 15), so you can print it at home or keep it on your tablet, and it comes with the Planting Windows: Year at a Glance printable. Add it to a printed calendar order and it's $5 instead of $20.

What comes in the bundle?

There are two. The Calendar + Journal bundle is the printed planting calendar and the matching garden journal for your zone, together for less than buying them separately. The Calendar + Journal + App bundle adds a year of the Planting Calendar App on top (the app opens right after checkout, the printed pieces ship by November 15), and saves you $10.98 compared to buying all three.

Tell me about the garden journal

It's a 6 x 9 inch, full color, coil-bound journal made to match your zone's calendar. There are monthly pages for all of 2027 plus crop record pages for varieties, planting dates and yields.

How exact are the planting dates?

Every window is built around your zone's average last and first frost dates, so think of each date as a window, not a deadline. If your frost dates are different, slide the windows by the difference: spring windows move with your last frost and fall windows move with your first frost. The seed-starting calculator above does the math for you. Want dates fitted to your exact spot? The Planting Calendar App shifts every window to your own frost dates (look them up by ZIP).

Which zones do you have?

Zones 3 through 10 for 2027, and new this year, every zone comes in regional editions: Zone 8 Southeast, Zone 8 Pacific Northwest and Zone 8 Texas, for example, each built on real frost dates and summer heat for that part of the country. Type your ZIP code into the finder above and it picks the right one for you. If you're in Zone 2 or Zone 11 and up, join my Substack to hear first when more are ready.

Can I get a digital copy of my printed calendar?

Yes, for $5. Add the digital download for your zone to the same order as a printed calendar or bundle and it drops from $20 to $5 automatically at checkout. The PDF is emailed on November 15, when the 2027 calendars release. Downloads are personalized to your order and are for your own household, so please don't share the file.
